The Management team at Fianium have over 100 years of combined experience with extensive knowledge of fiber laser development, manufacturing operations and customer applications and support.
Chief Executive Officer
Anatoly Grudinin started his work in the area of fiber optics in early 1980s when he joined Physical Lebedev’s Institute Russian Academy of Science (FIAN) after graduation from Moscow State Technical University. He was one of first researchers who studied nonlinear properties of silica fibers and pioneered discovery of Raman solitons in single mode optical fibers.
In 1992, Anatoly joined the Optoelectronics Research Centre at University of Southampton where his main areas of interest were ultrafast mode-locked fiber lasers, high power fiber lasers and amplifiers.
In 2003 Anatoly left his professor's chair at the ORC and founded Fianium, a fiber laser company focused on development and volume manufacturing of ultrafast fiber lasers for bio-medical and industrial applications.
Vice President of Business Development
In 2003, John joined Fianium as Manager of R&D, responsible for overseeing the development and introduction of Fianium’s line of Ultrafast fibre lasers. In his present role, John has responsibility for the company’s technology development and intellectual property activities.
Prior to joining Fianium, John held positions as Project Manager at Schlumberger-Sensa and Sensor Dynamics Limited, developing optical fibre sensor technology for Oilfield monitoring.
John has a First Degree in Electronic Engineering from Nottingham University and completed his PhD in Optical Fibre Sensors at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) in Southampton, UK. He is the author of several publications, patents and patent applications in the fields of fibre-optic sensing and fibre lasers.
Global VP Sales & Marketing
Colin joined Fianium in March 2009 having previously spent 20 years in numerous management roles in Marketing, Business Development and Sales with Coherent. He has developed and grown Scientific and Commercial OEM business in multiple Geographic and Application areas.
He has a BSc and PhD in Physics from Heriot-Watt University in the UK and spent 6 years on the faculty in the Optical Sciences Center, University of Arizona.
Vice President Corporate Development
Mr. Sutton over 25 years of experience in a variety of general management, financial and commercial positions in technology industries. He has been involved with Fianium since 2008, prior to this he was Chairman of Sifam Fibre Optics from 2005 to 2007. From 1997 to 2004 he was Vice President and General Manager at JDSU with responsibility for multiple business units and technology transfers. Between 1990 and 1996 Mr. Sutton held a variety of financial and commercial positions with Rolls-Royce plc and Siebe plc. From 1980 to 1989, Mr. Sutton was with Deloittes both in the UK and the USA.
Mr. Sutton is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, he graduated with honours from Nottingham Business School and was a member of the Willis Coroon MBA consortium. He is a Non Executive Director of the South West Industrial Development Board advising the South West Regional Development Agency.
Managing Director, Fianium Asia
Dr Luksun Li was appointed Managing Director of Fianium Asia Ltd in May 2007. He has over 25 years of experience in the photonics industry.
Prior to joining Fianium, Dr Li spent 12 years at various positions with Furukawa Electric Europe, including R&D Manager, General Manager and Vice President for pump lasers and optical amplifier products, as well as a member of Board of Directors. He also serves on the boards of directors of several private companies. Dr Li holds a BA and a MA degree from the University of Oxford and a PhD degree from the University of Southampton, England.
Director of Finance
Lis joined Fianium in 2008 to handle finance, administration and company secretarial matters at a pivotal point in the growth of the company with a strong commercial and entrepreneurial background spanning some thirty years.
Lis is a History graduate who qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in London and spent nearly two decades in practise specialising in small and medium sized private companies.
Lis was headhunted to turnaround Ancasta, the largest brokers and boat retailers in Europe, as the group Finance Director . She led a successful management buyout of the group from the then owners and subsequently sold her interest to the management team in situ. After a couple of years with the Jubilee Sailing Trust as Head of Finance and Compliance Lis was appointed as the Group Finance Director of XSMG, a start up company which developed, funded and now retails the multi award winning XSR48 before joining Fianium.
